The tremendous
depth of the Punahou track and field teams was again in
evidence at the 2007 State Championship meet at War
Memorial Stadium in Wailuku, Maui.
On the girls
side, Baldwin was expected to make a strong challenge,
but an injury to June Ann Lusk all but made it a
certainty that Punahou would prevail. Punahou did it
without having a lot of stars, but showed strength in
almost every event, plus a top showing by Samantha
Cabreros (1st in triple jump and 2nd in long jump).
On the boys
side, it went right down to the final events as Baldwin,
Mililani and Kamehameha all had thoughts of coming away
with the victory. This is where Punahou’s depth again
came to the fore, as an injury to team leader and
multi-event star, Matt Tsujimura, made the final
outcome a lot closer, but still a win for the Buffanblu.
