Iolani outside hitter David Fink was late to show up for the first round game against Pearl City in the New City Nissan HHSAA State Boys Volleyball Championships. He showed up with a nice brown tan which would mean some time in the sun…on a school day. No problem for head coach Mike Among. No detention for Fink either. Because he had just come straight from the airport after arriving from Kauai where he was competing in the HHSAA Golf State Championships. Hence the tan.
On that side note, he helped his Iolani Boys Team win the State Championship and he was just 2 strokes off of winning the individual state title as well, finishing second. His teammate Lorens Chan got that honor.
After changing jerseys and putting on his knee pads in the car, he caught the tail end of pre-game warm ups, played in games 2 and 3, got 5 kills, and helped the volleyball defeat Pearl City 3-0 in about 1 hour. Iolani will play #2 seed Roosevelt tomorrow at 7:00p.
Nick Christman, also playing only games 2 and 3, lead the team with 10 kills. Chris Llarenes added 9 kills and 4 service aces.
Donovan Nieves lead his Chargers with 8 kills but they could not counter the size advantage of the Raider team.
